"Our Darkness" tells the story of wavers and goths in the eighties – behind the wall, in the GDR. Because even behind the Iron Curtain, the music of The Cure, Anne Clark, Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division and many others penetrated. Their trademarks: melancholic music, elaborate hairstyles and black clothing.

From smuggled "Bravos" and the youth radio station DT64, young people in the GDR pieced together information about the waver and goth youth culture from the mid-eighties onwards, spent many hours crafting their own interpretations of the outfits, and created their own self-made cultural home. Even the numerous hostilities from fascists and the GDR security apparatus could not stop the spread of this youth culture.

Turbulent and legendary was The Cure's first concert in what was still the GDR on August 4, 1990: a highlight of this youth culture. The circle closes with the first Wave-Gothic-Treffen organized by goths in May 1992 in Leipzig.
